First off, I want to extend a HUGE molto gratis to my man 908 for welcoming me back from an unexpected leave of absence, it's nice to know that people miss ya when you're gone...
As we approach the final episode of Futurama, I've reflected on happier times with the gang, times which really made me laugh, cry, think, and even ::gasp:: feel. It is in said reflections that I've decided to start a thread in which we can all share and discuss(!) our most fondest moments we personally have about Futurama. I'll start with a couple from the early years.
I think the first defining moment for me came during the second episode, "The Series Has Landed", during the moment Bender first got a magnet attached to his head. When he said "I guess a robot would have to be crazy to be a folk singer", it made me realize not only the layers of depth to Bender's character, but the layers of depth to the show as well. Indeed, reflection upon one's own sanity -- especially a robot -- is something that takes true skill to write, and it was done perfectly here.
The next moment I can think of was more of a gut-busting incident, as it is still one of the lines that, whenever spoken can truely make me laugh. This line was spoken by Fry during "War is the H-Word", during the scene when he plotted to break down the fence, take the guards out and then board the helicopter. Needless to say, Leela was one step ahead of him, as always, yet Fry -- caught up in the moment-- believed it to be him. It was then that the realization of "wait a minute, that's not me!" dawned upon him... THAT, my friends is humor.
So what do you all think? Let's send the series off as it should be -- with many fond memories and recounts of the past 5 years in which we all found time to watch this little gem of a show.
Cheers,
Vince
